The Role

Tesla is seeking a dynamic and creative Senior Industrial Hygienist to join the Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team. The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for creating and streamlining the systems and procedures necessary to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control occupational exposures to chemical and physical hazards.

The main duties will consist of working in diverse, cross-functional teams to build out and manage Tesla’s Industrial Hygiene policies, programs, and procedures.
This role will manage programs related to Plant Operations and Maintenance (POM), Shop Maintenance, Hazardous Waste and Industrial Cleaning, Construction, and Emergency Response teams. In addition, this position will conduct exposure assessments for chemicals and physical hazards including noise across the various factory departments.

This position will be based in Berlin, Germany and will require some limited international travel (up to 10% of the time) to Tesla’s North American and EMEA operations.
What You’ll Do
  • Scope out and manage the completion of exposure assessments and industrial hygiene surveys
  • Conducting measurements based on risk assessments, communicate Industrial Hygiene data
  • Develop structured reports and other written communications of assessments to engage Production, Facilities, Construction, Engineering/Design, Management, and EHS teams
  • Perform occupational noise assessments and assist with management of Tesla Hearing Conservation Programs
  • Serve as an Industrial Hygiene subject matter expert (SME) and provide recommendations as needed and decide appropriate level of engineering, administrative, or PPE control for chemical, radiological, or noise concerns
  • Develop industrial hygiene-related training to the organization; review, customize, and update current training modules and assist with medical surveillance and maintaining compliance.
  • Manage the industrial hygiene program and ensuring Tesla is in compliance with all applicable environmental laws, permits, and industrial hygiene regulations
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, industrial hygiene or closely related EHS discipline; alternatively, equivalent experience
  • More than 5 years of experience managing environmental compliance programs with an emphasis on emissions control for manufacturing facilities and/or construction projects
  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to implement and comply with the following national regulations at a large manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrated exceptional skills and proven success in managing environmental compliance programs
  • Fluency in German and English (verbal and written).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
