About the team
The Train Service Delivery team is responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of the GWR service to its customers. We deliver all components that make up the service, including managing the train plan, Customer Information, Area Operations and, when required, train service recovery. We deliver service management, incident recovery, and support tactical performance improvement.
The Fleet Operation Controller is responsible for presenting the GWR train service in line with expectations, quantity of seats, compatible traction to route and to maximise fleet availability. The role will require proactive management of the fleet to ensure units are returned to depot to meet maintenance and inspections requirements whilst ensuring customer needs are at the forefront of all decisions made.

24/7 coverage is required for this role, so a shift pattern is required including nights and weekend working
Although based in Swindon, occasional travel across the GWR network may be required

As the Fleet Operations Controller you will be required to ensure:
- Allocation of the fleet across GWR's services is appropriate and delivers against promised capacity and facilities on each service
- Proactive engagement with internal and external stakeholders to maximise fleet availability in line with the daily train plan
- Delivery of both volume and specific requirements to GWR Engineering & Hitachi to support fleet maintenance plans
- Balancing of the fleet – maintaining visibility of depot capacity and supporting problem solving when required to maintain service efficiencies and Fleet deliverables
- Actions remain Dedicated to Safety, by seeking a safe resolution to issues within your competence and proactively escalating when required
- The business is provided with clear, accurate updates on fleet position on a regular basis
- A strong communicator (verbally and in written form), with the ability to influence and work collaboratively with others to find solutions to complex problems
- Able to make quick but informed decisions, especially in times of disruption
- Able to consider short- and medium-term impacts when making decisions
- A natural problem solver, anticipating and mitigating against fleet-delivery challenges faced by engineering
- A background in prioritising customer experience in plans and decisions
- A close attention to detail
- A strong focus on disciplined delivery of outcomes through problem solving
- Demonstrable experience of stakeholder management and an awareness of key stakeholder and supplier-customer relationships relating to GWR fleet
- A proven track record of strong train service management or fleet planning management, along with knowledge of the systems used, is desirable in this role
